Common Questions

Common Questions

For Families

What is the typical model of ABA therapy you are providing?

I have the flexibility to offer multiple types of models based on your payor. Insurance-based models are typically a combination of parent collaboration and direct therapy, reauthorized every 6 months. After speaking with you, I can typically provide my initial suggestions and then refine them further after an assessment is completed. It is completely up to you for consenting to the options and modifying as needed based on your family's schedule. In a private pay model, there is more flexibility related to the amount of parent collaboration and consultation provided.

What are the advantages of a private pay model?

Flexibility, the ability to pause or reschedule without insurance repercussion, and less insurance-related barriers dependent on the goals.

How do I know if this is the right fit for me or my family?

In the intake process, I will provide a thorough explanation of what can be worked on and achieved. This is a commitment, and it will require time and energy to see progress. If at any point you feel that this is not right for you, we can discuss discontinuation. ABA is not a one-size-fits-all approach and not all individuals will necessarily benefit. If at any point during the assessment or process I do not think this is an appropriate or ethical fit, I am obligated to share that with you.

What payment options are available?

As of May 2026, I am only accepting private pay. I am currently working on credentialing with Blue Cross Blue Shield NC, Aetna, and United Healthcare as future payors, estimated late Summer 2026.

How do you come up with goals for my child?

I take a combination of key information from completing a values-based assessment with you, conducting direct assessments most appropriate for the individual, and identifying social significance based on the time and package allotted. I believe fully that goals must be agreed upon by the family including the individual. I work within my field, and if other areas of need are identified from other fields such as speech or mental health services, I will share that with you at any time.

Will you collaborate with other professionals?

Yes, please! Collaboration with other professionals is encouraged and welcomed.

What if I need help finding other services, respite, etc.?

Sometimes ABA is advertised as more of an opportunity for respite care or daycare. While I do not provide those services, I am happy to help you find resources or connect you with a care coordinator to assist. I am also able to attend IEP meetings or doctor's appointments where any of my observational or data findings can be shared.

For Individuals

I am an adult with autism/ADHD and am interested in behavioral support or coaching - is that available?

Yes! I specialize in combining Acceptance and Commitment Therapy with behavioral science to help adults achieve observable long and short-term goals and address common barriers. This can vary from practicing social skills to interview for a job, to exercising a certain amount per week, to addressing common limiting beliefs when struggling with executive functioning challenges. This is not limited to individuals with neurodivergence, but it is my area of specialty.

What is behavioral coaching and how does that differ from ABA?

ABA is well known only by its relation to therapy for autistic people, however it is applied across many settings and under different names - including health and fitness and business, to name a few. It is similar to the medical model in that we are identifying an observable need and applying an intervention to record results. In coaching, we are identifying your key values, barriers to aligning your behaviors with those values, and finding where to begin with action items. Through every bump in the road, we learn to accept it and move forward while coping and regulating our nervous systems. Not every BCBA or health coach is educated in these areas, and it is important to find one that is if this is an area of interest to you.

Will insurance cover services for me?

If you are diagnosed with Autism and are under 21, you may be able to have services covered under more rigid guidelines for goals. Otherwise, private pay is outlined on the coaching page. It may also be worth speaking with your employer's HR department about HSA options and what can be reimbursed in that space.

For Students

What settings are you permitted to supervise in?

I most often provide supervision in clinics, homes, schools, and group homes. If you are unsure whether your setting would be an appropriate fit for fieldwork hours with me, feel free to schedule time for us to talk. Please also speak with your employer about whether they will permit outside supervisors to either observe live or via live recording. We have a permission form to send out to any necessary parties.

What is the payment procedure?

Supervision payments are required on a monthly basis, with 30 days notice required for cancellation without fee. If the information you are seeking is not found on the supervision page, please feel free to send me a message!

Your photo here

Background

I began my work in 2016 in direct behavioral care and music instruction with individuals with special needs and social-emotional differences. Since becoming a Board Certified Behavior Analyst in 2021, my experience has spanned a range of clinical settings and populations.

My work has included supporting individuals from toddlers to adults in areas such as communication development, emotional regulation, and challenging behavior, from early skill-building to more complex behavioral presentations. I've also facilitated social skills groups, supported community-based learning, and collaborated closely with schools and medical providers.

I have worked with individuals with Autism, ADHD, Traumatic Brain Injury, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Fragile X Syndrome, anxiety, depression, and complex trauma. Much of my experience has involved navigating overlapping needs, where behavior is influenced by multiple factors rather than a single diagnosis.

Approach & Beliefs

My work is grounded in the science of Applied Behavior Analysis, while also being informed by Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I was drawn to ACT naturally, and it continues to shape how I think about behavior, particularly the role of thoughts, avoidance, and values in long-term change.

Over time, I began to notice a gap in how services are often delivered. Strategies may be technically sound, but difficult to apply outside of structured settings. Families are often left trying to translate recommendations into real-life situations without enough support. Clinicians may be trained in procedures, but not always in how to adapt when things don't go as planned.

My approach is built in response to that gap.

As someone living with chronic illness, I am especially mindful of what it means for support to be realistic. Behavior change does not happen in ideal conditions. It happens within the limits of energy, access, environment, and support systems. Because of this, I prioritize strategies that are not only effective, but sustainable.

I believe access to reinforcement, learning, and community should not be dependent on circumstances or resources. Support should meet people where they are and still move them forward.

ABA Consultation & Education

For Families & Communities

ABA Consultation & Education for Families and Communities

A practical, real-life approach to supporting individuals and the systems around them.

What is ABA?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is the science of understanding behavior - why it's happening, and how to respond in a way that supports meaningful change.

At its core, ABA focuses on the idea that behavior is influenced by what happens before and after it. When those patterns are understood, we can make small, intentional changes that lead to more consistent and positive outcomes over time.

This can include:

  • -Caregivers gaining confidence in how to respond
  • -Individuals building skills that support independence
  • -Teams developing more consistent and effective approaches

Practical and individualized:

  • -Focused on real environments - home, school, and community
  • -Built around understanding behavior and applying strategies in the moment
  • -Flexible based on the needs of the individual or team

In-Home Consultative Support for Families

Megan works directly with your family in the home, assessing an individual's strengths, needs, and goals, then coaching caregivers to implement strategies that carry across all the people and places that matter.

What the process looks like

We start with a conversation to understand what is currently happening and where things feel stuck. From there, support typically includes:

  • -Intake & assessment to understand patterns and needs
  • -Development of a treatment plan and practical recommendations
  • -Caregiver coaching and modeling within real routines
  • -Functionally addressing barriers including caregiver overwhelm and problem solving with realistic plans to move forward
  • -Collaboration with occupational, speech, primary, or mental health to facilitate a well rounded approach
  • -Ongoing progress monitoring and adjustment
